This 163,500 sq. ft. facility in the heart of downtown Toronto includes a community center, daycare, and district school areas. It also features a double gymnasium with a mezzanine running track, change rooms, multi-use areas, and more. The roof comprises a full basketball court, a running track, and extensive green roof areas.
The three-story structure is divided into a north wing and a south wing, connected by a pedestrian bridge. Structural steel was chosen for its strength and weight reduction, allowing for long spans and open, column-free spaces. Supporting the track is a four-meter field-bolted truss and a shallow shop-welded truss, providing the necessary open space for the gyms and basketball courts below. Moreover, structural steel's integrated supply chain reduces errors, improves safety, and lowers overall project costs.
